Katie Cox
My work explores the beauty embedded within the designed environments we move through every day. Inspired by photographs taken during daily life and travel, I focus on architectural details, decorative patterns, and overlooked surfaces.
Through a process of experimentation, layering, and reconstruction, I transform these familiar elements into colourful, abstracted compositions. By shifting scale, colour, and pattern, I invite viewers to see ordinary spaces in unexpected ways, making them feel exciting, unfamiliar, and newly visible.
My paintings celebrate the act of looking itself, encouraging a slower, more attentive way of engaging with the beauty within the designed environments that surround us.
Having recently completed a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree, these paintings showcase my developing practice as I continue to explore the relationship between observation, abstraction, and the designed environment.
Annabel Waters
My paintings are an ode to the home, honouring the spaces we live in, love, and curate. Her work explores the link between domestic space and happiness, celebrating the relationships we hold with our homes.
Working intuitively, Annabel combines her personal experiences of home with her childlike fascination for ‘dream’ spaces. Through this process, imagined scenes are formed, in which perspective and logic are overturned. Bold pattern and fluorescent colour call the supposed mundanity of home objects into question, whilst repeating objects honour the comfort afforded by home rituals and routines.
We spend most of our lives in our homes. Home is where we eat, sleep, are raised, and where we nurture our human relationships. Through her work Annabel celebrates the everyday, seeking to capture a sense of the unparalleled enchantment and comfort of being at home.
Having recently completed the BA Fine Art degree at Northbrook College, Annabel will go on to complete her Master of Fine Arts at West Dean College of Arts and Conversation, where she will continue her exploration into the subject of home.
